chemical process and plant design

Scope: Systematic introduction to the design of process plants. Training on a preliminary design project
Contents: the framework of designer's activities, evolution of the design project, analysis of system structure, degrees of freedom in a design problem, criteria and methods for selecting design variables, economic design criteria, cost estimation, accounting for risk, utilization of economic criteria, optimization etc
Preliminary design project: the project is carried out by student teams to get direct exposure to various aspects of designing a process plant. Emphasis is given to the early stages of project development. Main activities include a brief market survey, gathering data for raw materials and products, selection of production process as well as preliminary technical and economic calculations allowing assessment of project profitability.
