Chemical Engineering Lab II

The course gives insight into the application of theory to practical problems of industrial concern.  Students working in groups make practical applications of the material learnt in previously taught courses e.g. Process Dynamics, Process Control, Chemical Reactor Engineering, Multiphase Flows, Primary Energy Sources. Participants receive training in performing technical experimental work, data acquisition, analysis and presentation, team management, and in writing technical reports. Typically, experiments performed deal with:

  • Reactions kinetics.

  • Basics on bubble column reactors

  • Analysis of control systems.

  • Review of measurement devices and data acquisition using PCs.

  • Characterization techniques and specifications of petroleum products.

  • Determination of specific surface area, pore volume and pore size distribution of solids.
