Chemical Product and Plant Design Project

Scope: Training on technical and economic design studies of chemical and related process plants.

Contents: Usual phases of a design project, technical characteristics of flow sheets, optimum design of distillation columns,  Design of process equipment, rapid, approximate size specification methods for process equipment, heat exchanger networks, energy conservation, piping arrangement, safety, risk assessment, technicall report writing etc.

Economic design project: Carrying out this project, on an assigned product, is the basic obligation of students, working as four-member teams. The project is at the "feasibility" level and requires, among other activities, collection of required physico-chemical and other data, selection and/or development of process flow diagram, process analysis and simulation, selection of design variables and efforts for process optimization.

Process simulators: Methods of process simulations. The commercial simulator ASPEN is available for special training and use by students.
